The chart shows the fertility rates in six Middle Eastern countries in the years 1990 and 2000 (Fertility rate = the number of babies per woman). Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparation where relevant.
The chart above shows the average number of children born to each woman in six Middle East countries in the years 1990 and 2000.
Oman and Saudi Arabia had the highest fertility rates in both years. In 1990, the fertility rate in Oman (6- 9) was slightly higher than that in Saudi Arabia (6- 8). However, in the year 2000. Saudi Arabia’s fertility rate (5- 7) was slightly higher than Oman’s (5- 4). Qatar and the UAE had the same fertility rate in 1990 (4-1). In the year 2000. both had lower rates. 3-5 and 2-9 respectively. Likewise, Kuwait and Bahrain had the same fertility rate in 1990 (3- 5). In 2000, both of these rates fell to 2- 8 and 2- 4 respectively.
In summary, it is clear that fertility rates in all six of the Middle East countries shown in the chart fell. The greatest absolute fall was in Oman and the smallest absolute fall was in Qatar.
