“Describe an old building that you particularly like – Mô tả một tòa nhà cổ mà bạn đặc biệt thích” là một trong những câu hỏi phổ biến và khó khi thi IELTS Speaking Part 2. 1/ Chiến lược cho phần thi IELTS Speaking Part 2

In Part 2, the candidate is given a task card which has a topic and specifically four points to talk about. Three of these points usually focus on describing something and the final point asks for reasons for something. The candidate is given exactly one minute to prepare and should then aim to talk for 2 minutes. During the one-minute preparation time, candidates can make notes and will be given a piece of paper and a pencil to do so. After your talk, the examiner might ask one or two more questions on the topic.

Ở phần thi IELTS SPeaking part 2, thí sinh sẽ được cung cấp một phiếu đề chứa chủ đề và 4 luận điểm cụ thể có thể tham khảo. Trong đó có 3 luận điểm tập trung vào mô tả chủ đề và luận điểm cuối cùng được yêu cầu nêu lý do. Thí sinh có chính xác 1 phút để chuẩn bị và nên trình bày bài nói trong khoảng 2 phút. Trong khoảng thời gian 1 phút chuẩn bị, thí sinh có thể dùng bút chì tạo ghi chú trên tờ giấy được giám khảo cung cấp. Sau bài nói, giám khảo có thể hỏi một hoặc nhiều câu hỏi liên quan khác xoay quanh topic.

a. Trước khi nói – Before you speak

• Đọc cẩn thận phiếu đề bài và quan sát chính sát những gì mà bạn đang được hỏi – Read the task card carefully and notice exactly what you are being asked to talk about.
• Suy nghĩ về những cấu trúc ngữ pháp và từ vựng cụ thể hữu ích liên quan đến chủ đề và sẽ trả lời – Think about some grammatical structures and topic-specific vocabulary which will be useful for your answer.
• Hãy viết xuống tờ ghi chú một vài từ khóa và ý tưởng chính – đừng cố viết câu hoàn chỉnh vì sẽ không có đủ thời gian – Write down key words and ideas to help you; do not try to write whole sentences as there is not enough time.
• Hãy chắc chắn là sử dụng hết thời gian một phút chuẩn bị để lên kế hoạch những gì bạn muốn nói và sắp xếp những ý tưởng cho logic – Make sure you use all the one-minute preparation time to plan what you want to say and order your ideas logically.

b. Trong khi nói – While you speak

• Làm theo lời nhắc trên thẻ để đảm bảo rằng bạn nói về tất cả những điều đó, sử dụng ghi chú của bạn – Follow the prompts on the card to make sure you talk about all of the things on the card, using your notes to help you.
• Mở rộng mỗi luận điểm để chắc chắn rằng bạn có thể nói chủ đề này trong vòng 2 phút. Bạn có thể làm điều này bằng cách mô tả, lý do, ví dụ, so sánh – Expand on each point to make sure that you are able to speak for the full 2 minutes. You can do this by including descriptions, reasons, examples, and contrasts.
• Sử dụng đa dạng cấu trúc ngữ pháp và từ vựng liên quan đến chủ đề trong câu trả lời – Use a range of grammatical structures and topic-specific vocabulary in your answer.
• Lắng nghe cẩn thận bất kỳ câu hỏi tiếp theo nào mà giám khảo có thể hỏi trước khi chuyển sang Phần 3. Hãy cho bản thân thời gian để suy nghĩ với những cụm từ chẳng hạn như Tôi không chắc về điều đó hoặc Đó là một câu hỏi hay – Listen carefully to any follow-up questions that the examiner might ask before moving onto Part 3. Give yourself time to think with phrases such as I’m not sure about that or That’s a good question.

2/ IELTS Speaking Part 2: “Describe an old building that you particularly like”

Describe an old building that you particularly like. You should say:

  • what the building looks like
  • where the building is located
  • what the building is used for
  • and why you like it.

Mô tả một tòa nhà cổ/cũ mà bạn đặc biệt thích. Bạn nên nói về: tòa nhà đó trông ntn, tòa nhà đó ở đâu, tòa nhà đó dùng để làm gì và tại sao bạn thích tòa nhà này.

An old building which I’m fond of is my old school. It was built in a very traditional style and dates back about 200 years. I think it was built in the Victorian age. It’s made from red bricks and has a tiled roof, the tiles are also red. Also, it has the enormous windows painted white which are typical of that architectural style. When I was a student there, there was a pond in the front garden with lots of wildlife like frogs in it and a stunning garden full of flowers. In summer the roses looked so lovely. Behind the school was a large field for playing sports too. There was enough room for football and hockey and cricket. The school wasn’t very far from the house that I grew up in as a child. In fact, I could walk there in about 15 minutes. I lived on the edge of the town which was near the school and the university as well … the school always looked so tiny when I compare it to all the university buildings on the campus. It’s first purpose was as a primary school, but like many buildings from that era it’s now been converted into apartments. Most of them are rented by students due to their proximity to the university … it’s really convenient for them. I like many things about the building. Firstly, I love the color of the bricks – they tend not to be used in public buildings nowadays so they remind me of being young, it’s as if it represents a forgotten time for me because of the way contemporary schools are designed. They are built in such a different style that my old school is definitely from another time.
