IELTS Writing Task 2: What are the similarities and differences between cats and dogs?

There are many animals that humans like to keep as pets but cats and dogs are the most popular animals. This essay will compare and contrast cats and dogs about some similarities and differences, including the breed of animal, identifying characteristics, habitat, behavior, and relationship with humans.

To begin with, aside from the obvious ones like both dogs and cats move on all fours and are covered in hair, these are some similarities of felines and canines. Dogs and cats are hunters, also meat-eater animals. They have to hunt the prey to survive. Besides that, both animals display territorial, loyal and affectionate. Many people think that domesticated pets are safe. That is wrong. Although dogs and cats love humans, they can attack humans as big prey. Neither cats nor dogs are endangered animals.

On the other hand, the main differences between dogs and cats are behavior and habitat. Dogs generally like to live in groups, but cats prefer to be alone. Dogs are considered to be more active and agile than cats because cats slept many hours during the daytime. Cats can see in almost complete darkness thanks to their unique eyes, whereas dogs can hear a longer frequency range from very far away. The way of hunting between them is also different. Dogs like catching their prey by running it down, whereas cats like catching their prey by surprise. Moreover, the way they sound is one of the major differences. Cats will meow or snarl, whereas dogs will growl, howl, yell, and whine. Comparing their identifying characteristics, dogs are larger than cats. A dog has 42 teeth, whereas a cat has only 30 teeth.

In conclusion, dogs and cats are animals with many similar terms of appearance and obvious differences in behavior and habitat.

IELTS Writing Task 2: Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment. Only governments and large companies can make a difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

The role in environmental protection has divided the public into different sides. While agreeing that the governmental bodies and other big enterprises play a crucial part in tackling this serious matter, I would also argue that every citizen also makes their contribution to this meaningful work.

On the one hand, considerable changes in terms of mitigating environmental pollution have been made by the governments and firms. With the regard to the former, it is the government that reinforce the work of protecting the environment. This is because it has the right to impose strict regulations on any aspect and ensure their law reinforcement. To illustrate, the law of giving financial punishment to those who litter garbage in the street forces people to put their waste in trash bins. As for the latter, they dedicate to protecting the environment by expending some parts of their profit to manufacture some environmentally-friendly products. For example, Vinamilk has used millions of VND only to design disposable package for their fresh milk.

On the other hand, it cannot be denied that every person in a society as a whole also is likely to ensure the unpolluted environment by the employment of different ways. In the first place, they are exemplary cases in protecting the environment. For example, their environmental awareness should be reflected by minor deeds such as picking up garbage lying on streets. Their behaviour is likely to make other people ashamed of what they have done and try to become environmental-conscious citizens. Furthermore, every individual with the same purpose can create a big community. Their demonstration with significant mottos will partly capture others’ attention, thus, changing their attitudes towards the pressing point.

By way of conclusion, while I admit the importance of the state organization and big corporations in the campaign of keeping people habitats thanks to their law enforcement as well as their initiatives in improving their own products, I also agree that individual contribution also make a big change.

Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after school. Discuss both views.

The matter of what should be done in the wake of leaving high schools has divided people into two distinct sides. While it is widely believed that continuing higher education offers learners a pool of merits, other people contend that joining the workforce right after graduation seems to be optimal. Discussion below will clarify ideas in support of each statement.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why school leavers are advised to attend universities. One of the most prominent ones is the opportunities to get well-paid jobs. To illustrate, university students are likely to be systematically trained the major they have chosen beforehand, having an in-depth insight into this specialization. Thus, after graduation, chances are they will get higher salaries at work and have more opportunities to move up their career ladders. Furthermore, in the competitive world of job seeking, having a bachelor degree is a competitive advantage as among millions of applicant, recruiters tend to choose those with thorough higher education rather than those without. Chances are with bachelor degrees, those job seekers are more likely to get admitted.

On the other hand, some are of strong belief that it is necessary to get a job after completing courses at high schools. In the first place, it is the merit of leading an independent life earlier. Being an employee of a large company will enable us to have money to cover all the expenses without depending on parental support. Therefore, those people will have more experience to handle problems arising in their daily lives. Furthermore, it has witnessed a huge number of university graduate unemployment over the past few years so investing money into getting a seat at university is considered a waste. Alternatively, this amount of money can be expended on running small businesses such as opening coffee houses or working abroad for a couple of years.

By way of conclusion, the abovementioned facts have created a dilemma when people evaluate the impacts of this issue and this still remains controversial. As far as I concerned, right decisions should be made by school leavers basing on different factors for the sake of better lives.
